The Value of Coaching

This is from last year, but I stumbled across this excellent article online at Chief Learning Officer about the value of having a coach. It’s sometimes misunderstood that coaching is to “fix” someone when more often it’s used to enhance performance. From the article, “It’s rare for an organization to offer coaching to someone who doesn’t offer enormous promise and potential.

Corporations invest a lot of money in coaching services for their high-performance, high-value individuals. But coaching isn’t just for the elite. The value of coaching in obtaining these positions can’t be under-estimated. Coaching is a substantial investment but one that pays off by creating a higher performing, more heart-focused version of you.

Through heart-focused leadership coaching, we work together as partners to build your resilience. To communicate with more impact and influence and connect with your team, we’ll explore eight aspects of a heart-focused leader:

  • creative
  • authentic
  • vulnerable
  • resilient
  • intuitive
  • empathetic
  • trusting
  • transparent

Goal setting, planning and accountability keep you on track to reach your desired destination. What could you achieve this year with a little coaching?

Playfulness (regardless of age)

Road Trip! The destination for this week (fittingly so) is Playfulness. Being an “adult” doesn’t mean you should forget what it is like to be a child.

This week, thoroughly enjoy yourself and have fun.

Roll on the floor, horse around, make a lot of noise and laugh.

If you have a house full of kids during the holiday, join in their games. Maybe even start one of your own.

Have a Happy Holiday!

Commitment

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Commitment.” You give your all to your work, family and community. But do you keep your promises to yourself?

Evaluate your current commitments. Are you still fully engaged or are they draining you?

Take steps this week to fulfill any incomplete promises.

For this week, make at least one commitment to yourself and keep it.

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Purification.” Time to cleanse and renew; inside and out.

Make a list of what isn’t working in your life. How will you change for the positive in the coming year?

Tackle an organization or clean-up project you’ve been putting off.

Clean up your diet by cutting out some of the junk food or sugar.

Abundance (you get what you look for)

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Abundance.” Your attention and energy creates reality. Focus on prosperity and not scarcity.

Make a list of what you’d like to manifest for yourself this week. Focus your positive mental energy intensely and purposefully on your wishes.

Make a note of any “coincidences.” How could your mental state have created the event?

This week, give everything your full energy. Look for instances where it is returned in kind.

Wisdom

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Wisdom.” Far more than knowledge and facts, your wisdom has been hard-earned through both joy and pain. This week, discover the wisdom within you.

Look back at the milestone events in your life. How have those experiences changed the way you make decisions?

When faced with a tough question, ask yourself what you still need to know before you answer.

Pull out your favorite book and read a random paragraph. If it held the solution to all of your problems, what would it be saying to you?

Let us know in the comments where you’ve gone and what you’ve discovered about yourself.

Delight (have fun!)

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Delight.” Experience the unbridled joy, silliness and wonder of life. Talk with your inner child and have fun!

Make a list of things that made you laugh as a child. Spend a few hours this week rekindling that spirit.

Play with a toy; the more silly the better.

If you can, spend a few hours with a child and look at the world through their eyes. Make note of the differences between how you typically react to situations and how they respond. Which would serve you better in your life?

Jot down a few ideas for how you can add more fun and joy to your work. Try one out this week.

  • Put a star next to the ones you wish you did more often.
  • Create a plan and do something each day this week to rediscover or deepen your passions.

How supportive are you of others in pursuing their passion?

Love (yourself before others)

Love

Road Trip! The destination for this week is “Love.” Love for self and others is really the true destination of our lives!

What is your definition of love? How does it show up in your life every day?

How can you more consistently show love for yourself?

This week, be more open to loving others; especially those you may have found less than “lovable” in the past.

Let us know in the comments where you’ve gone and what you’ve discovered about yourself.

What’s your most beautiful quality? How can you make that stand out?
